Meet our Friendly Staff of Highly Trained, Adult Swimming Lesson Instructors

Steve Wallen

Steve Wallen is an owner as well as an instructor at Steve Wallen Swim School. He graduated from Chico State with a degree in Physical Education. While swimming at Chico State under the legendary olympic swim coach Ernest Maglischo, Steve competed on the Men’s Swim Team that won back to back National Championships as well as set a National Record in the 800 freestyle relay. He is also a member of the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame.

Steve Wallen has been involved in the sport of swimming for over 40 years. He taught lessons in his Folsom home for eighteen years, and has now moved on to expand his swim school to better serve his customers. Steve has always dreamed of owning his own swim school where he can demonstrate his passion and exceptional talent for teaching students of all ages and abilities to swim. Kaleb Wallen

Kaleb Wallen is an owner as well as an instructor at Steve Wallen Swim School. He grew up in Folsom, California and attended Folsom High School. He then went on to graduate from the University of California, Davis where he excelled in both academics and athletics. Kaleb studied Exercise Biology with an emphasis in Physiology as well as competed on the UC Davis Men’s Swim Team for four years where he swam under olympic swim coach Pete Motekaitis. He has now followed in his father’s footsteps and is doing what he knows and loves. Kaleb has worked for Steve Wallen Swim School for the past seventeen years, and enjoys working with swimmers of all ages and skill levels.

Kaleb Wallen first started teaching swim lessons and coaching swim team students at the age of fourteen in his family’s backyard pool in Folsom. Once he graduated from UC Davis in 2007, he and his father decided to expand their backyard program which has now grown to be one of the most popular and respected swim schools in the area. Kaleb now teaches infants, kids, and adults of all skill levels, as well as specializes in competitive video analysis and underwater filming for competitive swimmers and triathletes looking to improve their stroke technique and efficiency. Mel

Mel moved to the United States in 2008 from her hometown of Ulm, Germany. She first learned to swim at the age three through the German Lifesaving Association. She then went on to swim competitively for twelve years until making the decision to pursue a career in Aquatics.

Over the last eleven years she has spent time as an Aquatics Director, Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Water Gymnastics Instructor, Pool Party Coordinator and a Mass Sport Host. Mel is an avid fan of the water and enjoys working with students of all ages. In her spare time she enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking and spending time with her son and husband in their new home country.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth has been involved in the swimming community for over 30 years working at various swim schools and local YMCA’s in Canada and Chicago. She has worked at Steve Wallen Swim School for over 10 years.

Elizabeth enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. She has a great passion for the sport of swimming and helping her students maximize their full potential. Elizabeth and her husband Tom have raised two children and currently reside in El Dorado Hills.

Keely

Keely recently graduated from Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove, California, where she competed on the swim team for all 4 years. Prior to high school, Keely also competed on other local swim teams for over 5 years. Keely has now been working at Steve Wallen Swim School for 5 years, and now works part-time while attending Paul Mitchell The School.

Keely has plans to work in beauty industry once graduating as she enjoys working with people. From infants to adults, Keely can help design a swim program to meet your specific need. She is very energetic, charismatic, friendly and reliable. On her days off she enjoys hanging out at the river as well as spending time with family and friends.

Ember

Ember graduated from Vista del Lago High School in Folsom, California, and is now attending Folsom Lake College. Ember has participated on various competitive swim teams since she was a young child, including her high school varsity swim team. She has also coached on local recreation swim teams. Ember and her sister also learned how to swim with Mr. Steve in the backyard pool in Folsom.

Ember has been working at Steve Wallen Swim School for three years and enjoys teaching swim lessons to students ages infant to adult. Whether you are looking to enter the water for the first time or looking to advance your stroke technique, Ember would love to work with you. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, dancing, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

Ryan

Ryan is currently attending Folsom Lake College in Folsom, California. He recently graduated from Oak Ridge High School and plans to pursue a career as a pilot. Ryan has a reliable work ethic, superior communication, and interpersonal skills, and has a great interest and passion for teaching swim lessons.

Ryan has been working at Steve Wallen Swim School for over two years and enjoys teaching swim lessons to students of all ages and abilities. From first-time students looking to gain confidence in the water to a swimmer looking to gain more efficient strokes, Ryan would love the opportunity to work with you today!

Everett

Everett is currently a senior at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, California. He has been a competitive swimmer since he was a young child and has participated on the El Dorado Hills Taz Swim Team for the past 5 years, where he has also helped coach.

Everett enjoys working as a swimming instructor for all ages and abilities and has been teaching at Steve Wallen Swim School for over two years.  From learn-to-swim swim lessons to stroke technique for competitive swimmers, Everett would love to work with you. In his spare time when he is not working at Steve Wallen Swim School, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Ariel

Ariel graduated from Folsom High School in Folsom, California, and then went on to receive her degree in Microbiology at UCLA. She is now attending UC Davis to obtain her Masters of Business Administration (MBA).

Ariel has now been working at Steve Wallen Swim School for over 8 years. She enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels from teaching parent-tot swim classes to more advanced stroke technique classes for kids and adults. In her spare time, she enjoys competing in triathlons and spending time with her friends and family.

Bryce

Bryce is currently a senior at Vista del Lago High School in Folsom, California. Bryce enjoys going to the gym and often incorporates swimming into his workouts.  Bryce has worked at SWSS for over two years and enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities.

Bryce has a great passion for teaching swim lessons and loves helping his students make great strides each and every class. From infants taking their first swim lesson and learning to get their face wet to adults learning how to develop better stroke technique and efficiency, Bryce can help design a program to suit your need. In his spare time, Bryce enjoys camping and hiking with friends.

Hannah

Hannah graduated from Sheldon High School in Elk Grove, California where she competed on the varsity swim team for four years. She first learned to swim when she was two years old and then went on to swim competitively for fourteen years. She attended Sonoma State University for two years and continued working at Steve Wallen Swim School during the summer. Hannah recently transferred to Sacramento State University where she plans to get her B.S. degree and work full-time at SWSS.

Hannah coached Sac Town Tsunami Swim Team in Sacramento, California, for three years, and has now been working at Steve Wallen Swim School for over five years. She enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels and also helps coach our swim clinics for competitive swimmers. Hannah has always had a great passion for the sport of swimming and loves sharing that with her students.

McKenna

McKenna is currently a senior at Vista del Lago High School in Folsom, California, where she participates on the Cheer Team and is involved in school volunteer programs. She learned to swim when she was young and has always loved the sport of swimming. McKenna’s love for kids and the sport of swimming are what drew her to teaching swim lessons.

McKenna enjoys working with swimmers of all ages and skill levels, and helping them learn-to-swim and enjoy the water. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Victoria

Victoria is currently a senior at Vista del Lago High School in Folsom, California, where she participates in many extracurricular activities including high school varsity soccer, teacher assistant, and other clubs. She also volunteers at horse camps training kids to ride horses and to help take care of injured and sick horses.

Victoria has worked at Steve Wallen Swim School for over two years. She has a great passion for teaching swim lessons and enjoys working with students of all ages. She finds being a swim instructor is very rewarding and loves to see improvement in her students’ technique each lesson. In her free time, she spends time with her friends and family and trains her horse, Jackie!

Mara

Mara graduated from Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, California, in 2013. She then attended the University of Arizona where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. Mara started swimming when she was six years old and continued competing on swim teams through high school.

She started working at Steve Wallen Swim School when she first moved to El Dorado Hills from the East Bay at 17 years old. She has now been working with us for over five years and has always had a passion for working with kids and adults. From learn-to-swim students to competitive swimmers, Mara has the knowledge and experience to help you succeed.

Administrative Coordinator

Londa

Londa is our administrative coordinator with over 15 years experience in retail sales, management, client communication, and customer service. From owning her own coffee shop and construction company to managing other companies, she has done it all.

Londa has a competitive swimming background through high school. Steve actually coached her when he was the head swim coach at Ponderosa High School in the 80’s.
