Swimmers of the Month – August 2015
Congratulations to Madeline and Thomas from El Dorado Hills, California, our Steve Wallen Swim School swimmers of the month for August! Madeline is 8 years old and has been swimming at Steve Wallen Swim School since she was 2 years old. When she first started swimming lessons, her main goal was to develop water safety skills in order to be safe around the water. Water safety skills include learning to swim in a prone horizontal position with your face in the water, floating on your back, as well as jumping in the water and getting back to the wall or step all by yourself. Now, after learning to swim on her own, she has continued to take classes in order to advance her swimming skills and maintain her confidence in the water.
Madeline is now swimming laps of freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke, as well as working on diving and turns, and other racing strategies. Thomas recently turned 6 years old, and first started swimming at Steve Wallen Swim School in our parent-tot swimming classes when he was 14 months old. Parent-tot classes are great for a swimmer to gain confidence in the water and learn basic swimming skills. They also set a great foundation in order to transition into swimming lessons with an instructor where they can progress to more advanced swimming skills. Thomas is now swimming full laps of freestyle with side breathing and backstroke. Most importantly, they both love the water, and look forward to their year-round weekly swimming lessons. Way to go, Madeline and Thomas! Two more champion swimmers at SWSS!
