Steve Wallen

Steve Wallen is the owner as well as an instructor at Steve Wallen Swim School, Inc.. He graduated from Chico State with a degree in Physical Education. While at Chico State, Steve competed on the Men's Swim Team that won back to back National Championships as well as set a National Record in the 800 freestyle relay. He is also a member of the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame.

Steve Wallen has been involved in the sport of swimming for over 32 years. He has taught lessons in his Folsom home for the past eighteen years, and has now moved on to expand his swim school to better serve his customers. Steve has always dreamed of owning his own swim school where he can demonstrate his passion and exceptional talent for teaching people of all ages and abilities to swim. Kaleb Wallen

Kaleb Wallen is the general manager as well as an instructor at Steve Wallen Swim School, Inc.. He graduated from the University of California, Davis where he excelled in both academics and athletics. Kaleb studied Exercise Biology with an emphasis in Physiology as well as competed on the UC Davis Men's Swim Team for four years. He has now followed in his father's footsteps and is doing what he knows and loves. Kaleb has worked for Steve Wallen Swim School, Inc. for the past eight years, and enjoys working with all ages and skill levels.

Kaleb Wallen left his mark at Folsom High School and the University of California, Davis where they have both named awards in his honor. Folsom High School now honors an athlete each year with the "Kaleb Wallen Sportsmanship Award," and the University of California, Davis awards an annual "Wally's Award" which is given to the swimmer who has shown the greatest amount of improvement over their tenure at the school. Kelsey Bensman

Kelsey Bensman is currently a Sophomore at Folsom Lake College, and has been working at Steve Wallen Swim School, Inc. for more than five years.  She first learned to swim with Mr. Steve in his backyard pool when she was four years old and has been around the sport of swimming ever since.

Kelsey has participated on various swim teams since first learning to swim, and has been very dedicated to the sport. She is now teaching lessons part-time at Steve Wallen Swim School, Inc. and enjoys contributing to the development of students of all ages and abilities.

Arlie Righos

Arlie Righos recently graduated from the University of the Pacific with a degree in Graphic Design. During her tenure at UOP Arlie excelled as a dual sport student athlete in both swimming and water polo.  She has been involved in the sport of swimming since she was five years old, and has competed on various swim teams since.  

Arlie has been an instructor at Steve Wallen Swim School Inc. for the past four years, and enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. In her free time Arlie enjoys going to the gym, painting, and hanging out with friends.  

Cristina Shary

Cristina Shary is currently a senior a Sacramento State University where she is earning her degree in journalism. She has taught swim lessons for Steve Wallen Swim School, Inc. for the past five years and has also served as an assistant coach for the Folsom High School Swim and Dive Team.

Christina is an avid swimmer and runner in hopes of competing in triathlons with her younger sister and friends. In her spare time Christina also works as a nanny, reads books, attends festivals, and hangs out with her friends.

Mel Amatulli

Mel Amatulli recently moved to the United States from her hometown of Ulm, Germany. She first learned to swim at the age three through the German Lifesaving Association. She then went on to swim competitively for twelve years until making the decision to pursue a career in Aquatics. 

Over the last eleven years she has spent time as an Aquatics Director, Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Water Gymnastics Instructor, Pool Party Coordinator and a Mass Sport Host. Mel is an avid fan of the water and enjoys working with students of all ages. In her spare time she enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking and spending time with her husband Dennis in their new home country.

Ashley Cayford

Ashley Cayford recently graduated from the University of California, Davis with a degree in Sociology and Communications. While at UC Davis, Ashley enjoyed a stellar four year career as a student athlete while setting a team record in 100 breaststroke and the 2nd fastest time in the 200 breaststroke.  This past season Ashley served as the team captain and helped lead her team to a 3rd place finish at the Big West Championships.  

Ashley began swimming competitively at the age of six, and has been at it ever since. She has been working as a lifeguard/swim instructor for the past seven years. Her hobbies include wakeboarding, snow skiing, and living an active lifestyle. She is extremely passionate about teaching swim lessons and enjoys working with all levels of students.

Nick Rohrer is currently a Freshman at UC Davis. He attended Oak Ridge High School where he competed on the swimming, wrestling, and water polo teams.

Nick has taught swim lessons for the past 3 years and enjoys working with all ages of students. He is very enthusiastic and outgoing about teaching and would love to work with you.

Jared Rondoni graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in English Language Literature. While at UC Santa Cruz he also competed on the Men's Swim Team.

Jared has taught swim lessons for the past 6 years and enjoys sharing his knowledge to students of all ages and all abilities.

Julia Schumacher

Julia Schumacher is currently a Senior at Vista Del Lago High School where she competes on the Women's Swim Team. She is also a member of the Capital Crew Rowing Team.

Julia has been swimming for the past 11 years on various swim teams in our area. She has taught swim lessons for the past 3 years and enjoys working with all ages and all abilities.

Amberle Huber

Amberle Huber is currently a senior at Vista del Lago High School with plans to attend Folsom Lake Community College in the Fall. She has been swimming all her life and has been teaching swim lessons at SWSS for over three years.

Amberle enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. Aside from swimming she is also a black belt in karate, an avid reader, and is working toward a career as a photographer.

Laura Madigan graduated from Southern Adventist University in Chattanooga, Tennessee with a B.S. degree in Biology emphasizing public relations and education. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois were she competed on a local year round swim team named Homewood Flossmore Swim Club from a very young age.

Laura has been teaching swim lessons for over five years and enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. She currently resides in the Sacramento Area with her husband and their dog. In her spare time she enjoys spending time at the dog park, reading, watching movies, and following the Chicago White Sox Baseball Team.

Ariel Hamill is currently a sophomore at at Folsom Lake College where she is studying to pursue a career in medicine. She first started swimming at the age of seven, and has been competing on various swim teams such as the Sierra Marlins and Folsom High School ever since.

Ariel has been working at SWSS for the past two years and loves working with all types of students. In her spare time she enjoys participating in triathlons, working out, and spending time with her friends.

Rainie Bullock is currently a senior at Oak Ridge High School. She first started swimming competitively 10 years ago at the age of seven. She competes on both the swimming and water polo teams at Oak Ridge which have finished the past 2 seasons undefeated Since her freshman year in high school she has also helped out the Taz swim team specifically working with students under the age of ten.

Rainie has worked for Steve Wallen Swim School for the past 2 years and enjoys working with all ages and abilities. In her spare time she volunteers time to church activities and hangs out with her friends.

Lauren DeFazio

Lauren DeFazio has been teaching swimming for over four years and absolutely loves it. She learned how to swim from an instructor in her own pool at a very young age, and has been loving swimming ever since. She started teaching swim lessons when she was in high school, and is now continuing to teaching as she attends Folsom Lake College.

Lauren is currently a liberal studies major with plans on teaching elementary school in the future. She loves her work and getting to know her students and always leaves with a smile on her face. By working with kids and teaching them valuable skills, she has realized her desire to pursue a career in teaching.

Julia Lamb is currently a senior at Oak Ridge High School where she competes on both the swimming and water polo teams. She also spends time working with the Taz Swim Team where she is both a coach and swimmer.
